Frequently Asked Questions

I'm a first-time visitor. What do I need to know?
  • This site is for YOU! My goal in blogging is: Empowering families to prioritize nature and play time.
  • There are over 300 play locations added to this blog since 2008.

What do you want me to DO here?

  • Subscribe to my weekly Play Trips Newsletter
  • Share park posts with others when you're planning a party or playdate. Just click on the title and copy the URL (http:// address) to link in your e-mail or invite.
  • Participate in the conversation by joining my page on Facebook or following me on Twitter
I want to find a particular park:
  • You can type the park name into the search bar in the footer.
  • Browse through the Playgrounds by City drop-down menu in the header. It has drop-down menus with cities to help refine your search.
  • The playground map has an alphabetical listing of all the parks on the site.
  • Visit the Index to South OC Playgrounds.  Or click on North County or Central County parks from the drop-down menu.

I can't find the park I'm looking for.

  • Visit my page with links to all the park websites in the region.  Once you find it on the city site, consider submitting it as a guest blog so I can share with other readers.

I want to volunteer! How can I help?

  • Be a Park Scout! If you do not see the park you are looking for, it usually means I haven't been there yet.  It would help my efforts if you would write up the park and submit it as a guest blog.  Read more
  • Comment on a post (even if I don't publicly reply on the blog, I try to e-mail everyone who comments!)
  • Recommend a park (instructions)

How do I comment on a park?

  • Fill out the comment box after the post and click on the green button to share. You will be able to add your insider info for the benefit of all.

Why are there more south Orange County parks?

  • The blog is totally dependent on recommendations. So far, more south county families are contributing. But that's slowly starting to change as the word gets out. Plus, Lisa Lasater is my North County Parks Reporter and is adding playgrounds at a dizzying rate! I welcome recommendations from ALL over the county.

What is a blog anyways?

  • A blog is an online journal - a "web log."
  • I usually post 1 or 2 journal entries during the week and try to take the weekends off to PLAY!

Are you available to speak to my group about play and park resources?

  • YES!! - only in Orange County. I've prepared a short ten-minute presentation on the importance of unstructured play and how to best take advantage of the park resources available to you. Your group gets a 4 page handout. [No cost].

About FunOrangeCountyParks.com
When I started this blog in April 2008, I had: an amazing husband, a 2 year old girl and a 6 year old boy.  It's almost six years later and my husband is still amazing, but my kids are now 8 and almost 12 years old.   In those six years, I've added over 300 play locations complete with maps, photographs, and important details. I've also built a dedicated readership.  I love my readers! I think they are the best around. I know I wouldn't still be writing without their encouragement and contributions.

FunOrangeCountyParks.com helps families:

  • Plan play trips using the #1 local guide to parks, playgrounds, beaches, and nature centers.
  • Discover dozens of nonprofits offering free and low-cost outdoor programs.
  • Get inspired to create epic family trips to the best vacation spots for nature travel.

"The Park Lady"

My name is Michele Whiteaker and I'd love for you to think of me as your personal Play Concierge. When I used to search online for family-friendly activities, nothing quite fit my playful outdoor interests or tight budget.
