PUBLIC ACCESS TO PARKS PROVIDES FOR GIVEAWAYS EVERY DAY!

Everybody loves giveaways! That’s why we give away info about fun and FREE (or low cost) parks and play ideas every time we post.

Today is no exception.

Mars and Stars at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea — THIS FRIDAY at 7pm
You could experience a perfect family adventure through the galaxy when OC Parks welcomes back NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and OC Astronomers for the 2nd event in a series of educational public programs showcasing various missions to Mars.  The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) mission that launched in 2005 and arrived in orbit around Mars in 2006 will be highlighted. A JPL scientist will showcase images from NASA Landers and Rovers on the planet’s surface. A scale model of the MRO orbiter will be displayed.

  • On Friday, pack up some chairs or a blanket. Get in your car and drive to Carbon Canyon Regional Park, arriving by the program’s start at 7pm.

Irvine Regional Park provides the setting for the final event of the series. At 6p.m. on Saturday, September 18, JPL will present the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, scheduled to launch in the fall of 2011. This is part of NASA’s Mars Exploration Program, a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the red planet. A presentation on the exciting new mission technology will be delivered and a 1/5 scale model of the space craft will be displayed. The OC Zoo and Irvine Park Railroad will remain open until dusk for extended family activities.

All events are free to the public with parking fees varying by specific location.

We received no compensation for this post, however we did receive a 2010 annual parking pass from an OC Parks event last year. Rest assured, if we hadn’t received one – we would have bought our own (like we did in 2009 and will do again in 2011). It’s a deal.
