After searching high and low for almost thirty years, I have finally found my dream home. It has three fabulous floors which offer plenty of space for entertaining friends. The house also has plenty of great features such as a nice sized family room, dynamic kitchen, big bathtub and a pink elevator that moves up and down using a pulley system.
Alright, I admit it’s not a house you can find on the MLS. It’s a Barbie Pink 3-Story Dream Townhouse. But, it is MY dream house. Seriously, it is the same Barbie house I had when I was little! Actually, they have upgraded it quite a bit since I last played with it in the 70’s. I could never figure out why my Townhouse had cardboard walls with pictures of furniture on them. It always bothered me to put my own Barbie furniture against a background of printed furniture. Nonetheless, my Barbie house was one of my most prized toys. After spending a couple of years using margarine containers for bathtubs, shoeboxes for beds, and books as room dividers, I was thrilled to have an official house for my Barbie dolls. I spent countless hours arranging furniture in the house, giving my Barbie dolls rides in the elevator and throwing disco parties for all their stuffed animal friends.
We first spotted the Barbie Townhouse during our family trip to Costco. I’m not sure which was louder, my sharp intake of breath or my daughter’s shout of, “Holy Smokes!” My husband just stood there shaking his head and said, “You have got to be kidding me!” Geesh, he just doesn’t get it. It’s my dream house and now it’s my daughter’s dream house. Having already completed our holiday shopping, my daughter and I will have to wait a little longer for our dream house. Um, (cough, cough) I mean my daughter will have to wait a little longer for her Barbie dream house. In the meantime, I have plenty of shoeboxes and margarine containers ready for some Barbie play!
