5 Things to Love About Snow Play

Snow provides a magnificent canvas for our family play time. We notice every detail of this strange, cold world covered in white. Nature is amazing in all its sparkling glory. Snow powder looks like glitter and barren hills become sledding playgrounds.

#1 - I'm fond of icicles. Hanging from a rooftop, from branches of a pine tree, from guardrails near the lake, or in the hands of the kids who get to taste one for the first time. Nature's original popsicles!

#2 - Snow Angels, of course. No trip to the snow is complete without one.

#3 - Maple syrup snow cones! I know it looks like yellow snow, but it's not. It's yummy GOLDEN maple syrup topping a handmade snow cone. My mom used to do this for us when we were little. It was fun to introduce it to our kids.

#4 - Building a silly snowman with green onions for hair and mushrooms for eyes. Then posing with it for a portrait like he's part of the family.

#5 - Sledding!!! On a sled or even sans-sled with just my ski pants - I love a fast ride down a steep hill. See this orange number? We used to take the metal version of this down our stairs at home!! What was my mom thinking? My nephew named this "The Disco" and my daughter dubbed it the "Spinning Teapot." I lovingly call it: "Ouch! Ooof! Ugh! Oooooh, man!" That didn't stop me from attempting it more than once.
