Reflection is permissible in nature. There’s time to see something from more than one angle. I gain perspective looking at things upside down and backwards.
Ever since Lindsey from Photospeak on OCFamily.com wrote her “Mirror Mirror” post – I’ve had reflection on my mind. I never plan to go out and reflect. It just happens. I’m outside in nature – and I stop (for once) to think. When I look back at the photos I took at the time, they make me feel peaceful.
I stood in each of these locations for more than a moment. They were long moments. Standing still for 10 minutes. 20 minutes. Something drew me to the view and I stayed to see what would happen next. Eventually, I would jump into the emerald waters of Catalina Island. I’d drive around Lake Tahoe to explore the boulder-strewn shore beyond the trees in the distance. A big black catfish would rise from the depths of the pond to say “Hello.” Rewards for waiting and appreciating?
Nature isn’t quiet. The breeze might brush past my ear, but it’s a sound I want to hear. The pounding of the Pacific is steady and soothing. Birdsong is real music to me. Do you hear it moms and dads? Do you share it with your kids? When’s the last time you allowed yourself to stand still in nature for more than a moment?
