I know school moms, blogger moms, taekwon-do moms, do-it-all moms, and take-it-easy moms. I know moms who:
- write;
- photograph;
- coach;
- teach;
- lead;
- style;
- sell;
- appraise;
- volunteer;
- play;
- train;
- support;
- design;
- market;
- heal;
- compose;
- create;
- cook;
- work;
- and stay-at-home.
I know many of the moms who read this blog. Moms help me make sense of things. I feel like I instantly connect with moms or grandmothers I might happen to interact with over the course of a day. We just "get it" and we "get each other." It's a pretty cool feeling to have -- the feeling that you're not alone -- especially at a time when you are often isolated.
So thanks to all the moms out there who really are my best friends -- whether you know it or not. My days would not be as fulfilling or my knowledge so deep without your words of wisdom and encouragement.
And I certainly can't leave out a big hug to my own perfect mother! When she asked what I wanted for Mother's Day, I replied, "Just being your daughter is present enough!" Sickening, huh? But true. In the end, we worked out a deal where I get to go for a special coffee or walk with just my Mom and sis. Two of my favorite moms in the whole world - and also my best friends.
Disclaimer: This is not to say that if you are not a mom, you're not my best friend. It's Mother's Day -- humor me with a little poetic license:)
