Winter Wonderfest, back at the Discovery Cube now through January 8th, 2016 is a great way to have some snow fun while also learning about snow science.
Not only did my family get to ride inner tubes down a HUGE 75 foot long ramp, slide down a slope on sleds and build some snowmen, we also learned about animal adaptations to cold weather in a hands-on demonstration.
To make the most of your time Winter Wonderfest:
- Arrive early. Be there, ready to play, when the Winter Wonderfest area opens. This will allow you to enjoy shorter lines before it gets busier as the day goes on. My nine-year-old LOVED the huge inner tube ramp and he went back in line over and over to enjoy it, and my six-year-old kept getting back in line for the sledding. Had it been later in the day, the lines may have been too long for them to do this.
- There is winter fun available for all ages! There is a smaller inner tube ramp that my six-year-old preferred to the huge ramp. The sledding slopes are split into separate areas for kids six and over and kids five and under. The hands-on snow science area and snow play area are appropriate for all ages.
- Bring warm clothes to play in, and a change of clothes – including shoes and socks – for when you are done playing outside and ready to warm up and head into the Discovery Cube.
- We brought rain boots for the kids and they were perfect for the snow. I wish I had thought to bring some gloves.
Winter Wonderfest takes place at the back, or north area, of the Discovery Cube parking lot. You will need a general admission ticket – or membership – plus an additional Winter Wonderfest ticket to enjoy all of the outdoor activities. There are signs along the way to point you in the direction of Winter Wonderfest, then back in the direction of the Discovery Cube.
When you are done playing and ready to head inside the Discovery Cube, don’t miss the sweet-smelling Science of Gingerbread area, complete with some truly amazing gingerbread houses. We slowly made the rounds, marveling at the amazing, delicious-looking works of art. I felt both inspired AND hungry by the time we were done!
For complete details about Winter Wonderfest, including pricing and hours of operation, please check the Discovery Cube’s official website.
Disclosure: My family received complimentary admission to a preview of Winter Wonderfest – however we are Discovery Cube members and I was already planning to buy tickets to experience this event.
